MCYS received an Award of Commendation for our contributions to the Tsunami medical relief missions at an Appreciation Dinner held at The Legends Fort Canning Park on 30 March 2005. The awards were given in an effort to recognise the humanitarian spirit and contributions of medical volunteers and organisations involved in the Tsunami medical relief missions. The event was organised by the Ministry of Health.

The Minister for Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, presented Awards of Commendation to various organisations and medical volunteers.

MCYS psychologists, Ms Vivienne Ng and Ms Michelle Ho, received certificates of commendation at the event. The officers were also awarded the Singapore Police Service Overseas Service Medal, which was awarded to officers who had participated in overseas missions involving threat to life or limb and/or who had provided humanitarian aid to the victims or next-of-kin.

They were amongst the 234 officers from the ministries and government agencies who received the Singapore Police Service Overseas Service Medals and the Singapore Civil Defence Force Overseas Service Medals for their contributions in the emergency response operations following the Tsunami disaster. In addition, 20 individuals and five private organisations were commended and received Minister’s Certificate of Appreciation.
