n a recent official trip to the United Kingdom,
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan made a stop at Oxford University to address students at the Oxford Singapore Forum.

Minister was Guest-of-Honour at the inaugural event, which was held on 14 March 2005. The Forum was organised entirely by Singaporean students. It drew young Singaporeans from across the UK to gather to discuss and debate issues of interest to Singapore with Dr Balakrishnan and other prominent public figures from home.

The theme for the forum was "The Singapore Identity." Engaging in a lively dialogue with the students, Dr Balakrishnan shared his thoughts on how common ideals, insecurities and opportunities contributed to our identity as Singaporeans, and defined Singapore as a country. Students also had an opportunity to interact with Dr Balakrishnan and the various panel speakers over lunch, and exchange experiences and ideas.
